For buildings of unconventional size, shape, structural system or function in high- seismic areas, code provisions written for typical structures may be inefficient, uneconomical or inappropriate. Performance-Based Design (PBD) is often a better approach. Unconventional structures, critical emergency facilities that must remain functional after an earthquake or hurricane - all can benefit from PBD.
The older buildings, public safety facilities designed using outdated codes that must remain functional after an earthquake. With our PBD approach, we evaluate older structures, find their deficiencies in seismic resistance and design retrofits to make their performances meet or exceed the current codes or client requirements.
Earthquakes are increasingly becoming an important factor to consider when it comes to buildings, even in non-earthquake prone areas. After all, it’s better to be safe than sorry.
